Pudsey and West Leeds Clandestine Cake Club
It’s A Kind Of Magic
We had a great afternoon at Mill Kitchen in Farsley on Sunday 7 June 2015, this lovely cafe/restaurant/deli is in Sunnybank Mills which is on Town Street and has parking at the side as well as off road parking. Our hosts AIlsa and Tom opened Mill Kitchen a year ago and I can definitely vouch for their coffee and cake when you’re in need of a sugar and caffeine fix!
The exciting news for our cake clubbers was that our event was being sponsored by French Glacé Cherries and they had sent lots of goodies to hand out on the day. Each guest received an apron, kitchen timer, recipe cards, French Glacé Cherries and biscuits, very tasty biscuits full of cherries and pecan nuts. We know only cakes are allowed but these biscuits had been provided by our sponsor and were wrapped up to take home, they had also sent a huge and very scummy Vanilla and Chocolate Cherry Marble Cake.
At the start of the event I gave a little talk about our sponsors:
French Glacé Cherries are 100% natural (no artificial colour).
Exclusively made from the Bigarreau Napoleon cherry variety, French Glacé Cherries are grown and candied in Provence (France), where they are then candied following the traditional process perfected by French Glacé Cherry producers over the centuries.
Holding their flavour and shape throughout the baking process, this high quality ingredient can bring texture and flavour to many savoury and sweet dishes, and deserves to be much more than a decoration.
Coloured with fruit and vegetable juices, French Glacé cherries come in different shades; most commonly red and dark red.
Many of the Glacé Cherries you can buy in your local supermarket are French Glacé Cherries find out here which ones.
Cakes that attended on the day:
Cherry Cola Bundt Cake – Sharon
Vanilla and Chocolate Cherry Marble Cake – French Glacé Cherries
Raspberry Bakewell Cake – Amanda
Top Hat Cake With Bunny Ears and a Lemon Curd Filling – Dianne
The Magic Far Awary Tree – Cherry Cake – Sam (with matching mini bundt cake)
Magic Rainbow Cloud Cake – Lemon Drizzle Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting – Pippa
Cherry Coke Cake – Chocolate Covered Cherries and Griottines from Brussels – Rachel

Wow… the cakes were fantastic… on the inside as well as out!
I loved this cake by Sarah… with the girl being cut in half… full of red skittles for dramatic effect as a pinata cake. Look at the detail of her face and hair and even her toenails are painted prettily! What a fantastic cake idea!
As always we had a fantastic Clandestine Cake Club, a lovely venue, tasty and clever cakes and lots of goodies thanks to French Glacé Cherries.
