Last week we ran away to the seaside… well a slow drive to be honest with all the 50 mph roadworks on the M1 and then the car park that is the M25 around Heathrow even with the new managed motorway system!
We went to visit our friends who moved to Hove from Leeds last year. There is something about the sea air down there it just relaxes you as soon as you get out of the car which makes it hard to come back home!
Saturday evening we were booked in for a meal at The New Club. A great little diner with craft beer, cocktails and good honest food which has an excellent location on the front just into Brighton… Hove and Brighton sort of mingle into each other although there is a clear difference between the two with peace and calm in Hove and an ‘anything goes’ theme in Brighton!
A little bit cramped inside with tables and chairs all very close to each other and the toilets were downstairs.
My friend had been talking about the Southern Fried Chicken burger all day and we were all disappointed to find they’d altered their menu and this was no longer a choice… having to think isn’t always good so a cocktail was needed while we perused the food on offer.
I had a Cherry Cola Bottle… oh.. my.. word… tasted of pure heaven and I can definitely recommend.
Yes it was that good that it needed two photos taking!
Snacks to start/share
In house smoked Pastrami – Grahams crackers – pickles
Aubergine chips with braised chilli dressing
Grilled padron peppers with yogurt
Devil Chicken – half roast chicken in sweet smoked chipotle and garlic marinade with pickled cucumber – pepper and pomegranate salsa
This had a great kick to it and the chicken was moist and delicious.
Dirty Burger – aged chuck and bone marrow – pickled red cabbage – shredded romaine – pickles – Monteray Jack – house sauce – soft glazed brioche bun
No prize for guessing I ordered the Dirty Burger along with some fries. Blooming delicious. The brioche bun was a perfect size for the burger and didn’t go all floppy. I asked for my burger well done as they usually cook medium rare. Oh my just looking at the photo I’m craving a burger and it’s only breakfast time as I write my blog… mmmm burgers…
BBQ Halloumi – chargrilled halloumi with giant couscous – wild rice – coriander – chilli – pomegranate – finished with a satay glaze
This looked scrummy and a great idea to use satay on halloumi!
We also got some fries, coleslaw and a house salad. Everything looked good and tasted excellent. Not too expensive either which is always a bonus!
Would definitely recommend The New Club if you’re down on the south coast in Sussex. They are busy so would be worth booking a table to save being disappointed.
