Pudsey and West Leeds Clandestine Cake Club
We celebrated World Book Night UK on Thursday 23 April 2015 at Medusa Bar in Horsforth.
I’ve been a WBN Book Giver for three years and I love the chance to encourage people to read. As most of you know I live with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome… that means there’s a lot of days when I can’t do a lot and often end up in bed early or struggle to move very quickly in a morning. Reading has helped to keep me going. The first Christmas after I was diagnosed my mum bought me a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas and it now means that I can read again wherever I am. It had got to the point where I struggled to hold a book for more than a couple of pages of reading, it would take me months to read a novel… I now get through books quickly and can even enjoy reading in the sunshine in the garden as the Paperwhite has a special screen that isn’t affected by the sun’s glare.
The book that I was giving away this year was Spring Tide by Cilla and Rolf Borjlind which is a psychological thriller, my favourite kind of book!
The cakes that attended on the night were:
Sharon – Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
Chocolate fudge cake
Joan – Fifty Shades of Grey
Fruit cake with marzipan and icing
Pippa – Bah Humbug (A Christmas Carol)
Chocolate Mint Cake
Sonia – Dark and Magical Horcrux cake
Chocolate and Raspberry Cake
Sarah – Mr Bump
Sam – The Runaway Tractor
Chocolate and Walnut Tractor Bundt
Hannah Keighley – The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Lemon and Blueberry Cake
Jessica – ‘Red Wedding’ Velvet Cake – Game of Thrones
Red Velvet Cake with Chocolate Arrows
Eleanor – George’s Marvellous Medicine
Gluten Free Strawberry Cake
I love that moment when cakes start to arrive at an event and the table gradually fills up! We were all obviously inspired by books from a young age!
I really enjoyed being a Book Giver for World Book Night again and gave out copies of my book on the night. Reading and cake is always a good mix!
A huge thank you to everyone at Medusa Bar for letting us hold our event there.

Clandestine Cake Club is a great way to meet friends old and new as well as get to taste scrummy cakes!
A huge thank you to Sara, one of our cake lovelies who flew the nest to pastures new, for my lovely bunch of tulips 🙂 It was so lovely to catch up with you.
