The Half Moon in Pool in Wharfedale is now owned by Wharfe Bank Brewery who are based in the old Whiteley’s Mill on Pool Road on the outskirts of the village going towards Otley.
Mr C has been asking to go and try out the ale in their home pub for a while so I thought that his birthday was the perfect day to visit for lunch. I’d bought a Groupon voucher which gave us a two course meal for two people, as the Curly One decided to come along too we just paid extra for his meal and our drinks.
For our starters we ordered
Salmon and Dill Pate
Main courses were
Half Moo’n Holy Cow – a beef brisket chili which even the Curly One found rather hot!
Fish and Chips
Pie ‘O The Day – Steak and Ale Pie
Mr C enjoying the first pint of his birthday and his fish and chips for lunch.
I haven’t been in this pub for many years and was impressed with their updated decor. Some nice finishing touches like the heart boards on the tables, sunflowers in the fire place and home made cushions.
The pub is on the route for the Tour de France first stage on Saturday 5 July so highly recommend if you fancy spending the day in Pool and having coffee, beer and some lovely food while watching the cycling go by!
