Afternoon Tea at Fodder, Harrogate

I love Fodder… the shop AND the cafe.

It’s situated at the Great Yorkshire Showground on the outskirts of Harrogate in North Yorkshire.  I’ve been going for a couple of years and I try visit whenever I’m in the area.  From a cup of tea and a slice of cake to burgers, soup and the most amazing Yorkshire Rarebit ever tasted.

I was with my lovely friend Amanda, who had almost run inside once she knew she was finally at Fodder!  I’d not told her our final destination and it was somewhere she’d heard of and wanted to visit!

We decided to have the Afternoon Tea which is served from 3.30pm – 5pm

The menu states…

A pot of Yorkshire Tea served with freshly prepared finger sandwiches, homemade fruit scone with Raydale Strawberry Jam and Stamfrey Farm Clotted Cream and a selection of miniature cakes.

For one £10.95 For two £19.95

Choose two from the following sandwiches:
Free Range Egg Mayonnaise and Cress (V)
Barncliffe Brie, Raydale Preserves Apple and Raisin Chutney and Leaves (V)
Ham Salad with Red Onion Marmalade
Roast Beef, Rocket and Horseradish
Chicken with Homemade Hummus and Rocket
Mackenzie’s Smoked Salmon with Longley Farm Cream Cheese and Cucumber

We chose to substitute tea for a black coffee and a latte.  Amanda chose the egg and beef sandwiches and I chose the brie and salmon.

Wow… as most of you know I like my afternoon teas… this was by far the tastiest one I’ve had as well as one of the most reasonable.  The portion sizes were very Yorkshire and not small and over delicate like some afternoon teas which still being very stylish and looking very attractive on a slate.

Lemon and poppy seed cake, a lush shortbread caramel tiffin syle piece of heaven and a syrupy, buttery, oaty piece of the most amazing taste and texture, a cross between a flapjack and a parkin.

We should never have ordered chips as well but we all learn by our mistakes and they were the most amazing chips I’ve had in a long time.  That’s just me being a little pig really!

Hope you get to visit Fodder soon, highly recommend!
