Knowing that we were going to Edinburgh for the day in June 2012, I contacted the Edinburgh Cake Ladies @EdinCakeLadies for a lunch recommendation in their great city and they suggested Howies.
We certainly weren’t disappointed with anything about Howies Restaurant on Victoria Street in Edinburgh and agree with the high praise given by Edinburgh Cake Ladies who have links to Clandestine Cake Club. We’re beginning to realise that CCC is not only for cake events, it’s also building up an international network of people who can always recommend the best place to eat or have a coffee and piece of cake in their local area!
I’d made our reservation through Twitter and checked out their website to look at their menus a few days before our visit. The menu was full of good tasty items and it was going to be a hard decision what to order.
Edinburgh was packed with tourists and we were pleased we’d booked a table as the restaurant was nice and busy when we arrived around 1.15pm on a midweek lunchtime.
Their website states: Scottish. Seasonal. From the Land.
We had the two course set lunch at £8.95 and couldn’t resist a coffee and slice of Banoffi Pie at the end of our meal.
We couldn’t fault anything, from the location, design and decor of the restaurant, the staff and of course the food and drink.
A thoroughly enjoyable meal and somewhere that we highly recommend to anyone living in or visiting Edinburgh.
I can honestly say this was the best piece of Banoffi Pie I have ever had. Perfect thickness and crunch to the base, long strips of banana, light and wonderful creamy topping and of course toffee. The perfect balance of all the ingredients and it looked very good too!
The beer was local and very tasty from Stewart Brewery in Edinburgh and the cocktail of the day was delicious as well as very pretty to look at!
The restaurant we visited was 10-14 Victoria Street, EH1 2HG
3 minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle
