Clandestine Cake Club – Pudsey & West Leeds First Ever Event – Thursday 22 March 2012
Bake Cake, Eat Cake, Talk Cake
What did you do tonight? I went to our very first Pudsey and West Leeds cakey gathering at a secret location… welcome to the world of Clandestine Cake Club!
What an exciting night we had with the most amazing amount of cake that you have ever seen!
The theme was ‘It’s All About The Cake! What’s Your Favourite?’ which isn’t actually an easy choice in itself. You think oh I like chocolate cake best, then you realise that lemon drizzle is actually the one you’d choose, no a fruit cake as that always has happy memories from celebrations, ooh, no it’s actually coffee and walnut… you see I got you thinking too didn’t I!
So what is your favourite cake?
The cakes that arrived on the night were… Tiramisu Cake, Overnight Tea Loaf, Raspberry and Yoghurt Cake, Ginger Cake, Date and Walnut, Coconut and Lime, Carrot Cake, Maple Syrup Cake, Lemon Drizzle Cake, Cinnamon and Sultana Madeira Cake with A Lemon Drizzle Icing, Rhubarb Sticky Toffee Cake, Victoria Sponge… then an obvious favourite were the chocolate cakes… we had a Chocolate Mud Cake, Chocolate and Hazlenut Cake, Chocolate Chip and Almond, Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake, Chocolate and Banana, Two Tone Chocolate Cake, Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake, Grandma Keighley’s Chocolate Cake… a very long list!! We had a total of 24 cakes on the night and 32 guests.
Our VIP guest on the evening was the founder of Clandestine Cake Club, Lynn Hill. It was lovely to catch up with her after all the recent media madness following articles on BBC’s The One Show and ITV’s Alan Titchmarsh Show about the secret cake world we all live in!
We also had the excitement of a Yorkshire Evening Post reporter and photographer at the event as well as a photographer from a local Community magazine, so watch this space, we’ll hopefully be in the news!
I know that some of you are still asking what Clandestine Cake Club is! An event is held at a secret location, and only the guests attending on the night actually know where that is. Sometimes you might only find out the day before! There is only one rule – No cupcakes, Muffins, Brownies, Cookies, Pies, Cake Pops, Tarts etc
It has to be a cake! A lovely, gorgeous cake that will cut into at least 8-12 slices.
The venue for our first event was Leeds West Academy which is on the Bramley/Rodley border on the outskirts of Leeds. This new state of the art school building was a perfect location with their lovely funky tables in the dining hall and plenty of room for people to socialise as we don’t just meet up to eat cake. The whole idea of CCC is to bake cake, talk cake and eat cake… if there’s any cake left after an event we also get to take cake home!
Leeds West Academy are raising money to send some students to Malawi in Summer 2013. They sold drinks to the CCC members on the night and the money raised from this will go towards their fundraising total.
Thank you again to everyone who came along and made this night such a great success.
Hope your sugar rush didn’t last too long!
Clandestine Cake Club is an excellent way to meet new people with the added bonus of cake!
